Andrews Center strongly believes in the merits and benefits of employment. Individuals with mental, intellectual or physical disadvantages are capable of holding real jobs and earning fair wages, and should have equal opportunity to do so.
Andrews Center offers three options for consideration concerning vocational ambitions and needs:
Many people choose to work in their own communities in integrated and competitive settings. Andrews Center provides services to assist individuals in securing and finding success in jobs that match their abilities and preferences. Job coaches are assigned to help attain the best opportunities.
If approved for the Supported Employment program, a job coach will meet with the candidate to learn about their interests and abilities. Coach and candidate will then work together to find a job that matches those abilities and interests as closely as possible. The job will be in the candidate’s community and will offer fair and equal pay.
Once a candidate begins working, the Supported Employment program remains involved, providing ongoing services such as job coaching, on-the-job-training, and problem solving. If a job placement doesn’t work out, a job coach will work with the candidate to find another job better suited to their abilities and interests.
Space in Andrews Center’s Supported Employment program is limited. Therefore a case manager must submit a referral for patients to be considered for the program.
Some individuals require specific training in pre-vocational areas prior to starting a job. Improvement in social skills, attention to tasks, and following directions are objectives met in this program.
