ADULTS

Andrews Center offers help and hope to adults needing a wide range of mental health and/or intellectual and developmental disability services. Whether transitioning into adulthood or an independent living situation for the first time, or coping with a lifelong mental illness diagnosis, Andrews Center Behavioral Healthcare System recognizes that adults diagnosed with mental illness and their families are faced with great challenges. These challenges may be temporary in nature, long-term or even potentially catastrophic, threatening quality of life for the patient and often the entire family.

ADULT DAY TRAINING (ADT)

Andrews Center provides access to two daytime programs for adults (18+) with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD). Both programs exist to help participants gain adaptive living and psychosocial skills in a safe and supportive environment. Experienced and degreed professionals work with participants in small groups, which allows them to offer the focused, person-centered training required for individuals to develop and maximize skills in daily living, communication and socialization.

The Adult Day Training program is located in Tyler, and the Athens Day Activity program is located in Athens. IDD adults with adaptive behaviors, psychiatric conditions, or physical handicaps that complicate their participation in a work environment, whether vocational or prevocational, are eligible for the programs. The Adult Day Training program is also available for children and teens needing after school and summer and holiday care.

Our ADA facilities are modern, safe and healthy environments equipped with surveillance cameras and security gates. Cameras are accessible to Division and Assistant Unit Managers and are monitored throughout the day.

Family members, legal guardians or assigned staff may refer clients by calling 903.533.8047 for ADT or 903.677.3520 for ADA or by emailing ADT.

Once the developmental disability is identified, placement will be considered. Fees for this service are based on ability to pay. Funding may be available for clients with specific conditions.

Pre-placement visits or tours may be arranged through the Division Director or Assistant Unit Manager.

A group home provides 24-hour care for its IDD residents in a comfortable, home-like setting. Andrews Center operates seven group homes in a five-county service area. Group home placement includes room and board, medical care, day-to-day life training, and field trips. Dietary services, psychologists and psychiatrists are available as needed.

ICF LIDDA

The Intermediate Care Facilities for Individuals with an Intellectual Disability (ICF/IID) program is a community-based residential service option provided in homes with six or fewer individuals. This ICF/IID program provides similar services provided in an HCS residential home. The services include staff available to assist individuals with identified needs, access to medical care, the opportunity to attend Day Habilitation or similar programs, and participation in community activities.

If you choose to access the ICF/IID residential option, you are able to keep your current placement on interest lists for home and community-based waiver services, such as HCS, Texas Home Living, Community Living Assistance and Support Services, and Deaf Blind with Multiple Disabilities programs.
