The main purposes of the In-Home and Family Support program are:
- To provide funds for services and goods for persons with developmental disabilities
- To promote independence
- To maintain the person's ability to live in their own home and community (rather than going into an institution at a higher cost)
The In-Home and Family Support program provides limited financial assistance to purchase products and services that are:
- Related to the individual's developmental disability
- Necessary for the individual to remain in their natural home
- Not available from any other source
IHFS cannot be used for basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter.
Program funds are to be used to purchase items or services that would not be required if the person did not have a disability, such as:
- Special Equipment
- Minor home modifications
- Health Services
- Training / counseling
- Home care
- Transportation
- Respite care
There is a limit of $2500 a year (September 1 - August 31). The amount granted depends on the individual's needs, income, and the use of a sliding scale fee.
You must complete an application and submit other documentation. For more details or to request an application, call the IHFS coordinator at 903.597.1351.
