We're here for you...

  • What is mental retardation?
  • How do you know if someone has mental retardation?
  • What is available for people with mental retardation?

The Andrews Center can help answer these questions.

Mental Retardation is a condition which occurs before age 18 in which a person's intelligence and daily living skills are significantly below average. People with mental retardation often have difficulty living, working and playing in the community.

Only a psychologist or specially trained doctor can diagnose mental retardation using tests that measure intelligence and daily living skills. Although mental retardation occurs before age 18, testing to diagnose mental retardation can be done at any age.
