Requirements and Benefits


The AmeriCorps Independence Project is open to U.S. citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents aged 18 or older who can pass a background, driving, and drug screening.

Senior Corps

 

 

Members serve full or part time over an 11-month period. They receive health insurance, training, and student loan deferment, and a monthly living allowance. An education award to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay back student loans is available after all program requirements are met.

 

 

 

 

Education Award amounts are:

  • Full time--$4,725
  • Part time--$2,362

Living Allowance amounts for 07-08 are:

  • Full time--$1009.09/mo
  • Part time--$534.23/mo
